And the promised letter from Travis, ending our two weeks of filler. I'm kind of sad, actually. The letters were really fun, and I almost wish that I could keep doing them. Except, you know. Much as I love this comic, it's a total black hole for time and money, and so until I figure out a way to make more of one or the other...
(Stupid reality. Boo.)
Back to updates next week -- there should even be a panel up as a vote incentive, so you know I'm not telling stretchers. I didn't get as far ahead as I'd like, but it's a sort of a buffer. So onwards!

So ShadeC4, somewhat earlier, asked me for some background on Travis. And I said 'sure'! And my writer-brain said 'no!'
'Brain,' I said. 'You can churn out a thousand words on obscure futuristic fortunetelling without even being asked for it. It's not like we don't already know this stuff. Piece of cake.'
'Worlds are different,' said the Brain. 'It's fine to just flat-out tell about worlds. People are for stories.'
So... we, uh, compromised, and you're getting a series of letters between Travis and his younger sister, who's been mentioned here and there, which will hopefully fill in some of the stuff ShadeC4 asked for and not annoy my writer-brain by being too direct. Or giving stuff away. Or whatever the hell it is the thing's sulking about.
I do apologize for the poor behavior of my subconcious, and promise to give it a thorough taste of the boot if I ever figure out where the damn thing is hiding.

Um. I think my filler is getting longer. That's... faintly scary.
One more week of filler, and I think I'll have my buffer in a state that I'm comfortable starting. Thanks for the patience, guys, and I hope you're at least enjoying my... er... rather wordy digressions....

One of the things I've forgotten to mention in my *cough* rather extended spate of lateness is that Spiderforest has a couple of new members. More than a couple, actually: we have five new fantasy comics (Keys, Mysteries of the Arcana, Dream*Scar, Malaak, and Weave), two new humor comics (Mellapants and Real Life Fiction), and one fellow science fiction comic, Omega. Some of them are still in the process of moving, but check 'em out anyway. We got some good ones in this haul.

So there ya go. People are still welcome to speculate if they like, but I've been hearing variations on the above dialogue in my head since the relationship thing came up in comments. Travis gets quite squeaky about it. So you'll have some fast-talking to do if you want the involved parties to go along with it. :P
There'll be some kind of background piece on Travis next week, and then whatever I can think up after that. Unless anyone has a question about anything (characters, setting, story....) I like questions. It's like inspiration on the cheap.
I also feel really stupid for getting a filler strip -- filler -- up this late, but I suffered an unexpected and severe outbreak of Relatives on this end which ate into my working time. They are gone now, and despite the seven-year-olds most of my house appears to still be standing (although the backyard wildlife may be permanently traumatized), so hopefully things will be a bit less Friday-the-Thirteenth-Brings-Aunts from here on out.

And so the longest story arc I've ever written comes limping to a halt. Have I mentioned how bad I am at endings? And how much I hate them?
So now, as I said on Friday... I'm taking a little break. Largely to see if I can't stack up enough strips to prevent the limping progress that we've been seeing for the past couple of months. It will be the rest of this week and probably all of next; after that, barring major disasters (she says cautiously, looking back at her year so far), I'll start posting new comics again.
In the meantime, I'll be posting filler strips, so hey -- if there's anything about the world or the characters or, well, anything, that you've been wanting to ask, now's the time to speak up. Otherwise you'll get a week or so of whatever bits of worldbuilding I feel like noodling at.
Right. Off to build a buffer. And hopefully this will be the last time I have to thank you all for your patience for a while.
