XCory: Hey, Riley, Jamie said you might --
Riley: Dammit!
Cory: Whoops. I take it I shouldn't ask how the new case is going?
Riley: The new case stinks. I just can't figure out what it stinks of. The client isn't talking, and... do either of you know Emily Barlowe?
Cory: We've met. Her case notes are useless, I take it?
Riley: Worse than.
Cory: Emily doesn't work if she can't win. If the case looks bad, she'll just milk the client until he's out of cash and then dump him.
Riley: So I assumed. But... there's got to be something else. The prosecution's case just doesn't look that strong to me.
Lawyer: Well, your client did confess. I know, I know, but juries are very impressed by those things.
Riley: Don't I know it. I have an arson case that's being escalated into homicide on the basis of my client's confession. Same detective as this one, as it happens.
Cory: It's an impressive confession. I particularly like the last paragraph where he talks about how sorry he is. Very elequent. It's such a shame he didn't fix all the references to arson when he copied it.
Riley: Isn't it just?
