XKris: So, to sum up, your drug addict coworker -- and I still cannot
believe you work with a junkie --
Lena: He's good at dishes.
Kris: -- anyway, he tries to steal money to buy drugs, which by some convoluted logic has resulted in your underage labor hanging out with a drug dealer, and now you're worried.
Lena: I don't know about
worried. Denny's a hustler, but... well, there's mostly no way to go but hustling or using, you know? He's not a bad kid. As long as Elroy keeps his head and don't let the boy fast-talk him into trouble. And they don't go too far from Sullivan Square. And --
Kris: Well, at least your life is interesting.
Lena: ...you could say that.
Kris: No, I'm serious. Stuff
happens to you. Unlike me. 'Dear diary, today I spent three hours listening to my parents fight over which hideously expensive flowers we were going to use for our Masquerade party.' Some days I swear I'm going to drown in the sheer
pettiness.
Lena: 'Dear diary, today there was a shootout on Rue Montaigne because one gangster's baby sister beat up the other's brother, so I went by Vining instead.'
Kris: At least it's
excitingly petty.
